Padel courts at holiday parks

The sport of padel is enjoying a huge rise in popularity. This has not gone unnoticed at holiday parks either. Padel on campsites is the sporting trend of 2023. In the Netherlands, there are still few holiday parks with padel courts, but there is clear growth in this market.

Padel courts at holiday parks

In the Netherlands, several holiday parks and campsites have converted one of their tennis courts into a padel court or built a padel court next to it. Padel is currently the fastest growing sport in the Netherlands and a perfect addition to a park's sporting facilities. Padelbouw has had the pleasure of building padel courts for three different parks:

Holiday park Leuker Lake

At holiday park Leukermeer in Well, Padelbouw built a padel court last March. Bart Wijnhoven of the park management conducted a short interview with Padelbouw to outline the choice of the padel court. Holiday park Leukermeer in Well has opted for a padel court as they want to realise more facilities at the park. Bart says that the holiday park wants to go along with the trend and that a padel court offers a nice look on the grounds alongside other sports facilities such as the tennis court.

Sliding doors in padel courts

According to Bart, the padel court was mainly conquered by the youth in the beginning. The padel court was used to play football on, but as a result, a net was destroyed. This could not be the intention, as the padel court should be able to be used by everyone to play padel. Because of this, Padelbouw made special lockable sliding doors, which have to be opened with a key. The key can be obtained at reception when the padel court is rented. Padelbouw fitted sliding doors at the padel court at Leukermeer Holiday Park in August. According to Bart, the cooperation between the holiday park and Padelbouw is very good. Padelbouw stands by its own product and reacted adequately to the situation in Well which resulted in a solution.

Padel court rental

At Leukermeer Holiday Park, the padel court is only rented out to guests. Guests pay a deposit for the padel equipment and can get the key at the reception desk in the park. ''We want this facility to be used as much as possible and now there are guests on the court daily and even now that it is getting colder,'' Bart Wijnhoven said. The padel court is mainly used for guests' free play, but is also occasionally included in the entertainment programme.

Padel on campsites is the sporting trend of 2023

Bart was asked if he agreed that this is a sporting trend within the industry. His response was as follows: ''Of course I do! Holiday park Leuker Lake had a padel court built for a reason.'' However, he does understand that choosing to build a padel court is a big investment, making it more difficult for other campsites. In addition, the investment is not only the problem, but there are also large parks that are actually already completely built up and struggle more with a lack of space. Most holiday parks already have a tennis court and have it converted into a padel court, but at Leukermeer holiday park, they opted for a padel court next to the tennis court to offer more facilities to guests.

Interested in a padel court at your park?

Bart Wijnhoven was asked if he will recommend a padel court to other parks. His answer was: ''Yes, I definitely recommend it. Padel is new in the Netherlands and a new form of exercise. If you have the choice between a padel court and tennis courts, you take that with you. Tennis courts may be cheaper, but padel courts are smaller in terms of surface area.''
