Pickleball is a dynamic and accessible racket sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. The game is played on a rectangular pitch measuring 6.1 by 13.4 metres, about one second the size of a padel court. The court is divided by a net and the game is played with a pickleball racket and a plastic ball with holes.

Serve

The pickleball rules for serving at are:

  • Serving is done underhand with both feet behind the service line;
  • The serve must go diagonally to the opponent's service box;
  • The serve alternates between the left and right service box;
  • The ball must not bounce before serving and must be hit without errors;
  • When serving, the ball must not enter the "non-volley zone".

Points

The scoring for pickleball game rules is as follows:

  • Points can only be scored by the serving team;
  • A match is usually played to 11 points, with at least 2 points difference to win;
  • A match consists of 2 or 3 games won;
  • After a game, there is a change of playing side;
  • In tournaments, there may be variations, such as playing to 15 or 21 points.

Non-volley zone

At pickleball, there is a non-volley zone:

  • This zone is located 2.1 metres from the net on both sides;
  • Players are not allowed to hit a volley in this zone;
  • If you hit the net, the point goes to the opponent;
  • The zone may only be entered to play a ball that has bounced first.

Further rules

  • You may also return the ball outside the net, even below net height
  • Each team is allowed two 30-second time-outs per game;
  • Between games, there is a maximum 2-minute rest;
  • Stick balls or unintentional double touching in one movement is allowedan;
  • You decide on in and out on your half of the gamewhen in doubt, decideis you in the opponent's favour;
  • Balls you haven't definitely ge seen are considered 'in' (i.e. no note).
