What is pickleball?
Pickleball is a fast-growing sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. The game is played with a pickleball racket and a plastic ball with holes, on a pickleball court slightly larger than half the size of a padel court. Pickleball is accessible to all ages and levels, contributing to its growing popularity.
History
Pickleball was invented in the United States in 1965 by Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell and Barney McCallum. The story goes that the three friends were looking for a new activity to entertain families. They used elements of different sports to create a game for young and old alike. The name "pickleball" comes from the Pritchard family's dog, Pickles, who loved to run after the ball and return it to his mouth.

Pickleball is played on a pickleball court with the pickleball dimensions of 6.10m wide and 13.41m long, with a net that is 86 centimetres high in the middle.The game can be played either single or double. The aim is to hit the ball over the net and land it in the opponent's court, without them being able to hit it back correctly. Interested in a pickleball court?

Game rules
The pickleball rules are very simple:
- Serve: The serve must be hit underhand and land diagonally in the opponent's service box;
- Bounce: Both sides must bounce the ball once before it may be hit;
- Rally: After the first bounces, the ball may be hit both out of the air and after a bounce;
- Non-volley zone: The area close to the net, also known as the "kitchen", is a non-volley zone where players are not allowed to volley the ball directly.

Pickleball offers numerous benefits, both physical and social:
- Approachable: The simple rules and smaller field make it accessible to beginners, while the speed and tactics remain challenging for advanced players;
- Health: The game promotes cardiovascular health, coordination and reflexes;
- Social: Pickleball has a strong community aspect, with many clubs and tournaments where players of all levels meet and play together.
